Bühler AG develops equipment for the industrial production of lithium-ion batteries and relies on the QuaLiB quality control system, which monitors electrode-paste-production (what a lovely word!) in real time and intervenes where necessary. The system had evolved over the years, was barely automated and difficult to test.

From evolved code to test coverage
As a Python consulting partner, we took on a codebase that was not designed for automated testing. We began with end-to-end tests as a safety net, gradually transformed the code into maintainable software, and added automated unit and integration tests.
90% coverage for critical components
Today, QuaLiB achieves test coverage of around 90 per cent for critical components, and both development and production environments can be set up fully automatically. Yes, the goal is, of course, 100 per cent!

Software beyond code
Producing the electrode paste is costly – it is essential to avoid waste. Semi-finished software has no place here. You realise this, at the very latest, when you’re standing in a car manufacturer’s production hall and see the equipment in action right in front of you.
